Visiting Kyoko Ibe
Kyoko Ibe is a Japanese artist working exclusively with washi (Japanese handmade paper).
After ten years of artistic exploration of Japanese paper - handmade with ancient techniques - Kyoko Ibe felt that she had to make the paper herself as part of the artistic process. Her process begins with century-old (unused) paper being diluted in water and bashed to relieve the fibres. Fibres are dyed with different minerals to the vibrant colors that can be seen in these pictures. These preparations takes weeks. And then large sheets of paper, coordinated to become paper screen walls, are laid out in one go, in one day. Amazing work. See more here:
